Kendi

Kendi – African Green Monkey
Kendi arrived in December 2018 as an infant. At only weeks old, he was taken away from his mother to be sold in the pet trade, and then was abused and exploited for profit. Luckily, Kendi was brought to the sanctuary, where he was hand-reared until he was old enough to join the other monkeys outside. Kendi is an extremely confident young individual who loves to explore and groom! He watches the others closely, which is helping him to learn normal monkey social behaviors.

Magan

Magan
Magan is a 27-year old Weeper Capuchin who arrived at the sanctuary when she was two years old after being surrendered from the pet trade. She lives with friends Sybil, JJ, and Bobby, and loves to play at every chance she gets! Magan can be a bit of a comedian, playing tricks on her caregivers, all for the fun of it. A highly intelligent capuchin, Magan will spend a long time trying to solve various food puzzles, her concentration never broken. During the day, she can usually be seen playing with Bobby or JJ, who are quick to give into her chasing and tickling games!

Wallace

Wallace (Wally)

Wallace is a 17-year old rhesus macaque who was retired from research in 2017. Since arriving at the sanctuary, he has had the opportunity to experience many things he likely never had before: having grass under his feet, interacting with other monkeys, and the freedom to move around in a larger space. He now lives with four other rhesus macaques and is the dominant individual of the group. Wallace enjoys laying in the sun and foraging for browse – he will eat any greens he can get his hands on!

Cinnamon

Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a 29-year old Barbary macaque – the only African macaque species at the sanctuary! She was transferred to OPS from another sanctuary in 2010, and has lived with Beasley, a bonnet macaque, since her arrival. Cinnamon is an extremely gentle individual who takes special care in all that she does. Her favorite activity is watching herself anywhere she can find a reflection – a mirror, a pair of sunglasses, or even her caregivers’ eyes! Cinnamon’s enclosure is filled with mirrors for this purpose, and she loves to stretch out in the sun, while admiring her own beauty.

Lily

Lily
Lily is a 21-year old long-tailed macaque who was surrendered by her “owner” in 2009. Here at OPS, Lily was able to meet other monkeys for the first time. She has developed an extremely close friendship with her enclosure mates Butch, Brett, and Ricki. They can usually be seen grooming, playing, eating, or cuddling together. Lily is one of the most thorough groomers at the sanctuary, and can sometimes be heard shouting at one of the boys if they move while being groomed. Other than grooming, Lily’s favorite activity is foraging for seeds and grass.
